About us
Since 1995, the African Centre for Applied Forestry Research and Development (CARFAD) has been committed to sustainable environmental management and the empowerment of local communities. Through innovative projects and impactful partnerships, CARFAD continues to champion the preservation of natural resources and improve the livelihoods of those who depend on them.
The African Centre for Applied Forestry Research and Development (CARFAD) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization registered under Cameroonian law. Founded in 1995 as an association known as Agro Nature Protection, it was renamed the African Centre for Applied Forestry Research and Development (CARFAD) in 2005. In 2019, CARFAD achieved full NGO status in accordance with Law N°99/014 of December 22, 1999, which governs non-governmental organizations in Cameroon.
The way we manage our environment will shape the future of our century. By combining responsibility and solidarity, valuing the interests and knowledge of all stakeholders, and fostering social justice, we envision achieving harmonious and equitable development that contributes to the well-being of everyone.
Our mission is to manage and protect natural resources sustainably while empowering rural communities. We aim to support local populations in their entrepreneurial and agropastoral initiatives to ensure socio-economic and cultural growth while promoting the responsible use of the resources on which they rely.
